Over 400,000 people flee Lebanon for Syria amid escalating hostilities
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The U.N. Refugee Agency said on Monday that over 400,000 people have crossed the border from Lebanon into Syria since the outbreak of recent hostilities in Lebanon.
UNHCR reported that between Sep. 24 – Oct. 20 approximately 425,000 people crossed from Lebanon into Syria.
The Agency pointed out that 72 percent of those fleeing are Syrian nationals, while the remaining 28 percent are Lebanese.
The surge in border crossings comes as the conflict intensifies, with both Lebanese citizens and displaced Syrians seeking safety and refuge from the escalating violence.
This figure includes not only those who have passed through official crossing points but also those identified by relevant authorities as having left Lebanon, extending beyond initial estimates provided by the Syrian Arab Red Crescent (SARC).
