Coalition ministers call for durable solutions for Northeast Syria
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Ministers of the U.S.-led Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS reiterated on Tuesday the need for long-term solutions for the populations remaining in Northeast Syria, emphasizing the importance of addressing various critical issues.
In a joint statement on the 10th anniversary of its establishment, the Coalition’s ministers “urged” the importance to bring “detained terrorists to justice,” ensure accountability for crimes such as gender-based violence, and improve the “living conditions in displaced persons camps” including Hawl and Roj.
The ministers highlighted the need to house detainee populations securely and humanely.
The ministers also called for greater support for reconciliation and reintegration efforts across both Syria and Iraq, stressing that fostering conditions conducive to a Syria-wide political resolution, in line with U.N. Security Council Resolution 2254, remains a top priority.
The ministers commended Iraq for its significant progress in repatriating over 10,000 nationals from Northeast Syria and praised Iraqi efforts to ensure accountability for those involved in criminal activities and support the reintegration of displaced individuals into their communities of origin.
The statement highlighted ongoing international efforts to address the complex humanitarian and security challenges in the region, while urging further collaboration toward sustainable solutions.
