Turkey deports over 20,000 Syrian refugees to north Syria in September

IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – Border crossings in northern Syria recorded on Tuesday that Turkey deported approximately 20,500 Syrian refugees, most of them women and children, in September 2024.

The sources added that 10,800 refugees were deported through the Bab al-Hawa border crossing in Idlib, 5,500 through the Bab al-Salama crossing in the north of Aleppo.

Additionally, 3,000 people crossed through the Jarablus crossing, and 1,200 through the Tel Abyad crossing in the north of Raqqa.

In August, Turkey deported more than 19,200 refugees, including 4,850 women and children and individuals with special needs.

The forced deportations of Syrians by Turkey have increased recently following the racist attacks against them.

While Turkish authorities describe the return of refugees as “voluntary,” most returnees refuse to sign the return forms, and the United Nations has emphasized that the conditions are unsafe for refugees to return.
