Manbij tribal leaders condemn “massacre” in Deir ez-Zor
MANBIJ, Syria (North Press) – Tribal leaders in the city of Manbij in northern Syria, condemned on Sunday “the massacre” committed by the Syrian government forces and Iranian-backed militias in Deir ez-Zor in eastern Syria.
In the statement, the tribal leaders condemned the Syrian government attempts to destabilize the region through supporting affiliated armed groups and planning operations, in coordination with Turkey, to create chaos in Deir ez-Zor.
The tribal leaders further denounced the repeated mass killings of innocent civilians, describing them as flagrant violations of human rights and a breach of all humanitarian values, principles, ethics, and international laws.
On Aug. 9, the government forces shelled the town of al-Dahla and the village of Jadeed Bakkarah, east of Deir ez-Zor, killing 11 civilians and injured six others, the Syrian Democratic Force (SDF) Media Center said.
On Aug. 7, Iranian-backed militants launched a ground attack from the eastern bank of the Euphrates River and infiltrated villages and towns in areas held by the SDF in the eastern bank of the Euphrates River in Deir ez-Zor.
