Renewed shelling triggers mass displacement in eastern Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – The eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria, witnessed on Friday mass displacement following a bloody night that claimed the lives of 11 civilians and injured six others, as shelling by the government forces resumed on several towns controlled by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
A local source from the town of al-Dahla, east of Deir ez-Zor, reported that residents began fleeing to the town’s desert area early in the morning. The towns of Shuhail, al-Busayrah, and Sabha are also experiencing displacement due to fears of renewed shelling.
The source added that “dozens of shells have hit civilian homes since last night, and the shelling continues without any deterrent.”
The source emphasized that hospitals in the town and neighboring areas are in urgent need of assistance due to the increasing number of injured civilians who have been hit by the government forces’ shelling.
For the third consecutive day, the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, controlled by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), has been experiencing a military escalation. The government forces and Iranian-backed militias have launched attacks and shelling from their positions on the western bank of the Euphrates River. The attacks have led to the killing of 11 civilians and the injury of six others, according to the SDF Media Center.
