Government shelling on SDF-held areas in Deir ez-Zor kills 11 civilians

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – In the early hours of Friday morning, the Syrian government forces shelled villages in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor in eastern Syria, a region held by the Syrian Democratic Forces(SDF), that led to the killing of 11 civilians and the injury of six others.

The government forces shelled the town of al-Dahla and the village of Jadeed Bakkarah, east of Deir ez-Zor, and killed 11 civilians and injured six others, the SDF Media Center said.

During the shelling, the government forces used rockets and artillery. Most of those killed are women and children.

“On the night of Thursday to Friday, at approximately 02:30 a.m., the Syrian regime forces stationed on the western bank of the Euphrates River launched a barrage of rockets and artillery shells at the village of al-Dahalah,” the SDF said in a statement.

“A significant number of these shells struck civilian homes and farms,” the statement read.

On Aug. 7, dozens of Syrian government-backed and Iranian-backed militants infiltrated villages and towns in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, and launched a ground attack against areas on the eastern banks of the Euphrates River, east of Deir ez-Zor.
