Advocacy group says Turkey bombarded NE Syria 345 times in 2024

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Turkish forces bombarded Northeast Syria at least 345 times in the first half of 2024, and led to the killing of 11 civilians including a child, an advocacy said on Thursday.

In a new report, the Synergy/Hevdesti Association, a victims’ advocacy group operating in Northeast Syria, said the Turkish forces has bombarded the region at least 345 times since the beginning of 2024.

The bombardment led to the killing of 11 civilians including a child and the injury of 51 others including seven children and six women, the Synergy added.

“In addition, dozens of critical facilities, such as health centers, power transfer stations, and oil and gas fields were deliberately targeted and destroyed, denying the local population from electricity, water, and gas for months,” the report read.

In January 2024, the report indicated, the Turkish forces launched more than 200 airstrikes on more than 150 different locations in Northeast Syria using warplanes and drones.

The Synergy report pointed out that the Turkish forces used artillery shelling and rockets that caused the most excessive loss of civilian lives in Northeast Syria during the first half of 2024.

“Synergy Association for Victims documented 243 bombardments that killed 10 civilians and injured 25 others,” the report noted. “Additionally, 102 warplane and drone attacks were documented, in which one child was killed and 26 others were injured, including seven children and six women.”
