Iranian Revolutionary Guards smuggle weapons into Syria
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) smuggled on Saturday night a weapons convoy into Deir ez-Zor Governorate in eastern Syria from Iraq.
A security source of the IRGC in the area said the IRGC brought in three trucks of heavy weapons to the village of al-Heri, east of Deir ez-Zor, through al-Sikak crossing. The convoy entered the Syrian territory from Iraq.
He added that the trucks moved from al-Heri and headed towards Palmyra in central Syria, without being accompanied by any military vehicles as usual for fear of being targeted.
The step coincided with an expected Iranian response to the assassination of Hamas political leader, Ismail Haniyeh, in Tehran.
