SARC receives bodies of 12 Syrians died in Algeria on way to Europe
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Arab Red Crescent (SARC) received on Saturday bodies of 12 Syrian nationals who died of thirst in the desert in Algeria while attempting to go to Europe.
Lebanese media reported that the Lebanese Red Cross handed over the bodies in accordance with protocol at the Aboudieh border crossing in Akkar to SARC at around 2 AM on Friday.
On July 7, 12 Syrians died after getting stranded in the Algerian desert while attempting to immigrate to Europe.
Issa Ali al-Radi, Mufaq al-Sahoud, and Muthir al-Sahoud from the town of al-Jarniyah in the west of Raqqa died of thirst and hunger after being lost for days in the Algerian desert.
Nine other Syrians also died of thirst while trying to immigrate to Europe, in addition to the car driver and his companion, both Algerians, also died.
The Syrian Red Crescent is expected to deliver the bodies to their families later today.
