Iraqi security forces kill ISIS militant in Kirkuk

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – Iraqi security forces announced on Monday the killing of a suspect affiliated with the Islamic State (ISIS) and the arrest of another in a security operation in Kirkuk.

The Iraqi Joint Operations Command stated that security forces in Sulaymaniyah Governorate carried out a successful security operation in the Qarah Hanjir area in the east of Kirkuk.

The operation resulted in killing one ISIS militant and capturing another, according to the official statement.

The detainee admitted during interrogation to the existence of an ISIS hideout in the mountains of Palkana in the north of Kirkuk.

Moreover, the statement added the hideout was located via coordination between security forces in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI) and the Joint Operations Command.

The hideout, which included ISIS militants, was completely destroyed using F-16 aircraft.

Occasionally, Iraqi security forces carry out security operations targeting ISIS sleeper cells and hideouts used to carry out attacks without being detected.

On July 7, the Iraqi military announced capturing a senior ISIS operative in charge of manufacturing car bombs in Baghdad.
