Iraq captures senior ISIS operative in charge of car bombs in Baghdad

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Iraqi military announced on Sunday capturing a senior operative of the Islamic State (ISIS) in charge of manufacturing car bombs in the Iraqi capital Baghdad.

The Iraqi security forces successfully captured an ISIS operative, known as “al-Fiter,” in the al-Yusufiyah district in the south of Baghdad, according to a statement by the Baghdad Operations Command.

Al-Fiter was responsible for operating ISIS facilities that produced explosives, the statement added.

He was handed over to the relevant authorities to be held accountable in accordance with the law.

In a related context, the Iraqi Military Intelligence said they destroyed a tunnel and several caves and hideouts used by ISIS in Nineveh Governorate.

After receiving intelligence information, the Military Intelligence found a 40-meters-long tunnel and several caves and hideouts used for the purpose of housing ISIS militants and storing logistical supplies.

Occasionally, Iraqi security forces discover hideouts and tunnels used by ISIS militants to carry out attacks without being detected.

On June 20, Iraqi forces destroyed with two airstrikes ISIS hideouts in Kirkuk.
