3 men from Raqqa die in Algerian desert on way to Europe
RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – Three young men from Raqqa in northern Syria died on Sunday after getting stranded in the Algerian desert while attempting to immigrate to Europe.
Activists in Raqqa reported that Issa Ali al-Radi, Mufaq al-Sahoud, and Muthir al-Sahoud from the town of al-Jarniyah in the west of Raqqa died of thirst and hunger after being lost for days in the Algerian desert.
Syrian media outlets reported that nine other Syrians died of thirst while trying to immigrate to Europe, and the car driver and his companion, both Algerians, also died.
The Algerian Ghawth Search and Rescue organization said a white vehicle was found in the hassi Belguebbour area with several bodies next to it.
The vehicle had been missing since July 2.
According to the organization, the main cause of death was dehydration in severe weather conditions.
