Local anti-drug group destroys amounts of drugs in Syria’s Daraa
DARAA, Syria (North Press) – A local anti-drug group destroyed on Friday quantities of drugs days after confiscating it from the house of a drug trafficker in Daraa Governorate in southern Syria.
A source in the newly formed local group, which goes by the name of “The Community Force” told North Press the drugs that were destroyed included hashish and several packs of Tramadol pills that were being illegally used.
A tribal figure, who preferred not to be named for security reason, previously told North Press the “The Community Force” was established by the Daraa tribes council to combat drug dealers, traffickers, and users, as well as thieves.
Daraa is dealing with a growing drugs problem as residents observed an increase in the smuggling and trafficking of drugs, leading to a rise in crime and violence in the city.
This has resulted in public dissatisfaction, with people expressing frustration over the lack of government intervention to address and prevent this problem.
The source emphasized that this operation is an important step in combating narcotics in the region.
The efforts of The Community Force will not stop here, as they will continue to pursue drug dealers to protect the community, according to the source.
