UNHCR says about $500 million requested for Syria operation in 2024
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) said on Wednesday that $466.6 million are requested for the Syria Operation in 2024.
After 13 years of the Syrian conflict, the U.N. estimated that 16.7 million people need humanitarian assistance across the country – a 9 percent increase from 2023, the UNHCR said in a report.
The UNHCR added that out of 7.2 million IDPs only 155,325 have returned, and only 16,194 refugees have come back to the country.
“The security situation in the country is unpredictable due to the current regional tension impacting relatively stable areas,” the UNHCR indicated. “The economic situation is increasingly dire.”
