Turkish border guards kill asylum seeker, injure another in Idlib
IDLIB, Syria (North press) – Turkish border guards killed on Sunday a Syrian asylum seeker and injured another while they attempted to cross the border into Turkey in the countryside of Idlib, northwestern Syria.
A local source from the village of Kherbet al-Joz in the west of Idlib told North Press Turkish border guards opened fire on a group of individuals as they were attempting to cross towards Turkey.
The source added that the shooting resulted in the killing of a young man, Qusay Safour, 29, and the injury of another young man.
The source pointed out Turkish border guards arrested 11 other individuals and transferred them to a security center across from Kherbet al-Joz for investigations.
Syrians attempting to cross the Syrian-Turkish border are continuously beaten, tortured and shot to death by Turkish border guards.
They resort to dangerous smuggling routes to reunite with their families, to get job opportunities, or to cross to Europe aiming at seeking asylum to meet their needs, especially in light of poor living and economic conditions.
