Asayish seize quantities of narcotic pills in Syria’s Qamishli

QAMISHLI, Syria  (North Press) – The Internal Security Forces of North and East Syria (Asayish) announced on Saturday that they seized large quantities of drugs and arrested drug smugglers in the two cities of Qamishli and Deir ez-Zor in eastern and northeastern Syria.     

The Asayish Media Center said in a statement via their official website that they arrested four individuals involved in drug smuggling in Qamishli on April 29.

They added that they caught the individuals red-handed via an ambush on a security checkpoint. The Asayish seized 4,600 kg of marijuana, 80 grams of heroin, 2.30 grams of  crystal meth, half a tablet of Captagon, and one hallucinogenic tablet of the Anditro type, in addition to weapons.

In another statement, the Asayish announced the arrest of three drug traffickers by raiding their houses in the western countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria, on April 30.

In 2023, the Asayish’s Anti-Drug Forces launched 1,946 operations in pursuing drug dealers and smugglers and arrested 3,300 people including 172 drug smugglers, 2,165 drug users, and 963 drug dealers.
