U.S. prepares for Iranian attack on American, Israeli assets in region

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The U.S. is preparing for a “significant” attack by Iran on Israeli or American assets in the region that could take place within the next week, a senior U.S. official told CNN.

The official pointed out that senior U.S. and Israeli officials now of the belief that an attack by Iran is “inevitable.”

On April 1, Israeli airstrikes targeted the Iranian consulate in Damascus, which is adjacent to the main embassy building, killing two generals and five officers of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps ( IRGC). The strikes killed Mohammad Reza Zahedi, commander of the IRGC’s Quds Force in Syria and Lebanon.

The official added the governments of Israel and the U.S. did not know when or how Iran planned to attack but they anticipate that their assets and personnel are at risks of being targeted.

Iran vowed to retaliate after the Israeli airstrike on the Iranian consulate in Syria, whereas the U.S. informed Iran they were not aware or involved in the attack

Israel has intensified airstrikes on Iran-linked targets, including weapons warehouses in Syria after the start of the Israel-Hamas war on Oct.7, 2023. However the attack on the Iranian consulate is considered a major escalation.
