Government forces launch arrest campaign in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Deir ez-Zor Governorate, eastern Syria, is witnessing security tightening and arrest campaigns following the airstrikes on Iranian-backed militias posts, killing and injuring over 30 leaders and militants.
Local and security sources told North Press that the area is witnessing a security tension searching for people involved in taking photos of military posts following the recent airstrikes.
Thirteen individuals, including two Iranian commanders were killed and more than 20 others were injured on March 26 in unknown airstrikes, targeting sites in the towns of Abu Kamal and al-Mayadin in Deir ez-Zor countryside.
On Sunday, ten people, most of them university students in the city of Deir ez-Zor and from the towns of al-Mayadin and Bouqros, east of Deir ez-Zor.
Joint patrols of the Military Security Branch and Air Force Intelligence Directorate of the government forces oversee the arrest campaign under direct orders from Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
The arrested people were transferred to the Military Security Branch in Deir ez-Zor, according to the sources.
The sources pointed out that the military checkpoints inspect the mobiles of the passers-by, which made people upset of the intensive security measures.
