Druze condemn government for killing protesters in Syria’s Suwayda
SUWAYDA, Syria (North Press) – Sheikh Hikmat al-Hajri, the religious leader of the Druze ethnicity in Suwayda Governorate, south Syria, condemned on Saturday the Syrian’s government forces’ criminal acts against protesters.
Al-Hajri said in a statement on Facebook that he receives condolences for the martyrdom of Jawad al-Barouki, who was killed by the government forces while protesting.
On Feb. 28, al-Barouki was killed by the government forces in front of the Reconciliation Center in Suwayda while protesting alongside dozens of others against what they called attempts by the government to suppress the protests.
Al-Hajri further added that the protesters are demanding their legitimate rights, hoping that weapons would not be used against them again and emphasizing the need to keep the protests peaceful.
