Jordanian army kills 5 smugglers coming from Syria

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The Jordanian army announced on Sunday the killing of five smugglers and the injury of others during clashes that occurred after thwarting a drug smuggling operation originating from Syria.

A Jordanian military official reported that the operation “resulted in the death of five smugglers, with four others sustaining injuries.”

The military official added that the forces participating in the operation seized large quantities of drugs.

On Saturday, a quadrilateral meeting was held between Syria, Iraq, Jordan, and Lebanon in the Jordanian capital, Amman. They have agreed to form a joint telecommunication cell consisting of officers from the four countries to trace drug shipments coming out of the countries all the way to their final destinations.

In a statement to North Press, Jordanian researcher Saud al-Sharafat ruled out the cessation of drug smuggling operations as a result of the meeting.
