SDF foils infiltration by government-linked groups in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced on Wednesday foiling an infiltration attempt by armed groups affiliated with the Syrian government forces into areas east of the Euphrates River in Deir ez-Zor Governorate, eastern Syria.

The SDF’s Media Center said in a statement that the armed groups attempted to infiltrate into the village of al-Kishmah and towns of Diban and Shaafah in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor.

The SDF forced the groups to retreat to areas in the west of the River, which are under the control of the government forces and Iranian-backed militias, after killing and injuring several militants, according to the statement.

On Feb. 10, an SDF leader told North Press an armed group affiliated with the government forces infiltrated from areas west of the River and attacked a post in Shaafah, killing SDF fighters.
