ISIS, gunmen attack SDF posts in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Unidentified armed individuals attacked late on Sunday posts of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria, in tandem with three attacks by the Islamic State (ISIS).

A military source in the SDF told North Press that unidentified gunmen launched an attack on an SDF post on the bank of the Euphrates River in the city of Hajin in the east of Deir ez-Zor.

The source added unknown gunmen also targeted two SDF posts in the village of Suwaydan. The attacks resulted in sporadic clashes between SDF fighters and the attackers, which eventually forced them to retreat.

Simultaneously, ISIS claimed responsibility through linked online websites for three attacks against the SDF in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor.

The group claimed the first attack was on a military vehicle near the village of Burayha, where it resulted in the injury of fighters inside.

The websites added ISIS militants targeted with machine guns a 4WD vehicle of the SDF in the town of Diban, killing a leader and a fighter.

Additionally in another statement the group said its militants shot an SDF leader in the town of Hawaij, killing him instantly.

The SDF has yet to comment on these attacks.

Lately, the scale of attacks against the SDF have intensified in Deir ez-Zor, as the SDF says the attackers are affiliated with the Syrian government forces. Meanwhile, ISIS claims responsibility for many attacks against military posts and personnel in that area.
