Iran’s FM says war in Mideast “not the solution”
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – On Sunday, Iranian Foreign Minister, Hussein Amir Abdollahian, lashed out at the recent U.S. and British airstrikes on sites linked to Iranian-backed groups in Syria, Iraq, and Yemen.
He stated on his on social media platform X, “We strongly condemn the U.S. and British military attacks on Yemen and the U.S. aggression on Iraq and Syria.”
He further added that he had told UK Foreign Secretary David Cameron that “continuation of war is not the solution.”
On Friday, U.S. forces targeted facilities of Iran-backed groups in Iraq and Syria in response to a drone attack on Jan. 28, targeting a U.S. base in northeast Jordan. The attack resulted in the death of three American soldiers and in the injury of 40 others. The Islamic Resistence in Iraq, an umbrella term for a coalition of Iran-backed militias in Iraq, claimed responsibility for the attack.
In his talk with Cameron, Abdollahian warned the U.S. and Britain of not testing “the wrath of the region. We consider the security of Iraq, Syria, Yemen and Palestine [Gaza and the West Bank] to be the security of the region.”
