RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – Raqqa’s Civil Council of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) opened on Monday an integration center for returnees from Hawl Camp in the countryside of Hasakah, northeastern Syria.
The Social Welfare Center, which is affiliated with the Social Affairs and Labor Committee of Raqqa’s Civil Council, is the first of its kind in Raqqa Governorate, northern Syria.
Na’ima Muhammad, co-chair of the Center, said that the purpose of the Center is to integrate returning families from the camp into the community.
Muhammad stated to North Press the Center targets the vulnerable category of women and children who are the majority of returnees. The Center provides various services such as issuing identity papers, providing relief aid, and livelihood projects.
The opening of the Center was attended by the U.S. International Development Agency (USAID) and civil society organizations, concerned with integration of returnees from Hawl Camp, and some of the returning families along with AANES officials.
Moreover, there are plans to open branches of the center in Deir ez-Zor, Tabqa and Manbij.
