109 NGOs call for addressing suffering of NE Syria’s people
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – 109 humanitarian organizations in northern Syria have called on the international community to urgently address the suffering of people living in northern and northeastern Syria due to recent Turkish attacks on the region.
Turkey launched 122 strikes, including 62 drone strikes and 22 airstrikes by warplanes, targeting 89 sites, many of which were vital infrastructure facilities, in the region from the beginning of 2024 up to Jan. 15.
The Coalition of Civil Society Organizations in Northern and Eastern Syria said in a statement that the humanitarian crisis in northeastern Syria has reached a “critical level,” requiring immediate attention and assistance from the international community.
The statement emphasized that the recent Turkish bombardment has severely limited access to basic services, with electricity, water, and gas completely unavailable.
The destruction of vital infrastructure not only exacerbates the suffering of local populations but also hinders the prospects of recovery and rehabilitation, the statement said.
The statement called on the international community and international organizations to join efforts in providing urgent response to boost long-term recovery and stability.
It highlighted that the scale of the crisis in the region exceeds the capacities of individual organizations, urging governments, NGOs, and international entities to come together to provide immediate assistance and long-term solutions.
