Islamic Resistance claims attacks on U.S. bases in Syria, Iraq
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – On Monday, the Islamic Resistance in Iraq, a coalition of Iran-backed militias, claimed responsibility for targeting two U.S. bases in Syria and Iraq with rocket and drone attacks.
The Islamic Resistance, in a statement published on its affiliated accounts, said that its militants attacked with a rocket barrage the U.S. base in the Conoco gas field in Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.
On Jan. 20, the Pentagon announced that 70 American personnel have been injured in Iraq and Syria in the past three months.
In a separate statement, the Islamic Resistance also announced that its militants attacked the Ain al-Asad base of the U.S.-led Global Coalition in western Iraq with drones.
The statement affirmed that they will continue to target U.S. and Coalition bases in Iraq and Syria in support of Gaza.
Since the Israel-Hamas war started in October 2023, American bases in Syria and Iraq have been targeted by Iran-backed militias 140 times, 57 in Iraq and 83 in Syria, said Sabrina Singh, a Pentagon spokeswoman, on Jan. 18.
So far, no official statement by the Coalition has been issued regarding both operations.
