Turkish forces shell SDF-held areas in Syria’s Tel Abyad
RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – Turkish forces shelled on Wednesday at dawn villages in the countryside of Tel Abyad and Kobani, northern Syria, in areas held by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
A local source told North Press that Turkish forces shelled with artillery and mortar shells the villages of Saronj, al-Huriya, Arida, Sewan, Umm Huwesh, and Qazali, which are located between the Tel Abyad and Kobani.
The source added that the shelling took place between 01:00 AM and 04:00 AM, and resulted in material damage to the properties and houses of civilians.
In October 2019, Turkish forces, along with their armed opposition factions of the Syrian National Army (SNA), occupied the city of Tel Abyad and its surrounding areas after a military operation dubbed ‘Peace Spring’.
About 175,000 people were displaced from the area.
