AANES says Turkey carried out over 70 airstrikes on NE Syria

RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – The Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) said in a statement on Monday that Turkey had launched more than 70 airstrikes during its recent attacks on north and northeast Syria.

During a press conference, the AANES stated that the Turkish attacks are “unjustified” and described Turkey’s behavior towards its people as “hostile,” surpassing all international laws and norms.

In the last two days, Turkey has escalated its attacks on north and northeast Syria, targeting infrastructure and service facilities.

According to statistics announced by the AANES in the statement, the Turkish forces have launched 73 attacks since Jan. 12, including seven attacks targeting five oil sites and facilities in the countryside of Qamishli, northeast Syria, and seven airstrikes on energy facilities in Kobani, Ain Issa, north Syria, and the countryside of Qamishli.

The attacks targeted checkpoints of the Internal Security Forces  in North and East Syria (Asayish) and injured six civilians. The Turkish airstrikes also targeted 45 facilities and civilian homes during the past two days.

The AANES described the Turkish attacks as “barbaric” and stated that they are not based on any justifications and do not take into account any norms and laws. The statement explained that Turkey is pursuing a policy of “scorched earth and area destruction.”

The AANES urged all active forces in Syria, organizations, human rights bodies, and humanitarian entities to realize the risks of these attacks and their negative consequences and local and regional impacts.

Especially since these “assaults” come in the context of the siege and “terrorism” threatening the region and the world, choking opportunities for a solution and stability in Syria, according to the statement.

“This aggression is nothing but a policy of extermination and destruction. It targets the values and ethics of the international community in the geography of our regions, which are fighting terrorism and trying to end it. It targets the unity of Syria and its sovereignty in the geography of northern and eastern Syria and its service institutions,” the statement read.
