Jordanian aircraft target drug dealers in Syria’s Suwayda – Reuters

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Jordanian aircraft carried out early on Tuesday airstrikes against suspected Iranian-backed drug smugglers inside Syria, Reuters said.

Reuters reported, citing regional intelligence sources, that Jordanian warplanes conducted four strikes in Suwayda Governorate, southern Syria.

According to the sources, three strikes hit prominent drug dealers in the villages of Shi’ab and Urman in the southeast of Suwayda, whereas the fourth strike targeted a farm near the village of Malah.

On Jan. 4, Jordan launched airstrikes on farms and houses suspected to be used for drug smuggling in Suwayda. An eyewitness told North Press that warplanes raided houses between the town of al-Ghariyah and the village of Umm Rumman on the Jordanian border, indicating that they were likely used for storing drugs to be smuggled into Jordan later.

So far there are unconfirmed reports of three people dead, including a local drug dealer, Reuters said.

This is the second air raid that Jordan has carried out within a week against drug smugglers in Syria.
