Jordanian forces kill 5 smugglers, arrest 15 on border with Syria
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Jordanian Army announced on Saturday killing five drug and weapons smugglers in clashes after attempting to infiltrate into Jordan from southern Syria.
A military source in the command of the Jordanian armed forces told Al-Mamlaka TV they managed to push back a group of smugglers into Syrian territory after clashes that lasted since Saturday before dawn.
The clashes resulted in the killing of five smugglers, injury of one, and the arrest of 15 others, the source added.
The Jordanian forces seized 627,000 captagon pills, 3,439 palm-sized sheets of hashish, and an AK-47 during the clashes, according to the source. There were no casualties reported among the Jordanian forces.
The source stressed that Jordanian forces will continue to deal with force and resolve with any threats on the border and attempts to undermine Jordan’s security.
Earlier, the army had said they were pursuing large numbers of smugglers who had crossed the border before dawn taking advantage of the heavy fog.
