Drone strike kills 2 Iran-backed leaders in Iraq’s Baghdad
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – Two leaders were killed on Thursday and six militiamen were wounded in a drone strike, believed to have been carried out by the U.S., on the logistical headquarters of the Iran-backed Popular Mobilization Forces in east of the Iraqi capital, Baghdad.
The Iranian-backed Harakat al-Nujaba militia mourned the killing of senior leaders Abu Taqwah al-Saadi, the commander of the 12th Brigade within the al-Nujaba, and Ali Abu Sajad, a logistics support officer.
In December, the U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin informed Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani that the Harakat al-Nujaba and the Katai’ib Hezbollah militias, both classified on terrorist lists, are responsible for the majority of attacks against U.S. and Global Coalition forces in Syria and Iraq.
In addition to Iraq, al-Nujaba is also active in Syria, where attacks on U.S. bases in east of the country are repeatedly carried out by Iran-backed militias.
