IED blast kills 3 IRGC militants in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – An Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was exploded on Monday in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria, killing three militants, including a leader, of an Iranian militia.
A military source from the Iranian militia told North Press that unidentified gunmen targeted a military vehicle belonging to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) with an IED behind the roundabout of the town of Sabikhan in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor.
The attack resulted in the killing of Ali al-Zubar, the 47-year-old local leader of the IRGC, along with two other militants of Iraqi nationality, the source said.
The source noted that al-Zubar, who hails from Sabikhan, was responsible for the relations office in the IRGC.
Following the targeting, the IRGC conducted raids and arrests, targeting owners of nearby markets, closed the entrances to the town, and imposed a curfew, according to the source.
