Agreement allows government forces to enter city in Syria’s Daraa

DARAA, Syria (North Press) – An agreement between the Syrian government forces and residents of a city in Daraa Governorate, southern Syria, entered on Tuesday into force. The agreement allows the government forces to enter the city to carry out search operations.

Local sources told North Press that the agreement provides for the entry of the government forces to main streets in the city and gets out a few hours later.

Since Dec. 15, the city of Jassem, north Daraa, has been witnessing a siege that was followed with an agreement. However, the government broke out the agreement and conducted a campaign of raids in nearby farms, targeting what it called “outsiders”.

The government forces that entered the city were accompanied by local armed people in order not to allow the government forces to carry out any violations, the source added.

The agreement stipulates that the government will withdraw the military reinforcements that it sent to the vicinity of the city of Jassem in the past days, according to the sources.

The sources mentioned that the government forces started allowing residents to get in or out of the city.

A few days ago, the government forces completely encircled the city of Jassem and prevented some patients who had medical appointments at hospitals from leaving the city.
