Suspected Jordanian airstrikes kill 4 family members in southern Syria

DARAA/SUWAYDA, Syria (North Press) – Four members of the same family were killed on Monday night in air raids on Daraa and Suwayda governorates in southern Syria.

An exclusive source told North Press that one of the raids hit a farm in the south of the village of Dhibin in the south of Suwayda. The raid resulted in the killing of four members of one family.

Reuters reported on Tuesday that regional intelligence sources said Jordan launched several airstrikes in southern Syria.

The Jordanian army said the airstrikes were in retaliation for a major smuggling attempt from Syria by groups of armed smugglers linked to Iranian-backed militias.

North Press correspondent in Suwayda said that an air raid targeted the city of Salkhad, south of Suwayda. The raid hit the house of Nasser Faisal al-Saadi, one of the prominent drug trafickers in the area and is known to have ties with the Lebanese Hezbollah.

Another air raid targeted the house of Shaker Shwei’er in the village of Umm Shameh, south of Suwayda, who is also known for drug trafficking.

In Daraa, a local source told North Press an air raid targeted a water well in the village of al-Mataaiyah in the eastern countryside of Daraa. The raid led to the injury of a guard near the well.

This is the second time in 2023 where airstrikes target drug traffickers in Daraa and Suwayda. On May 8, an airstrike, believed to be conducted by Jordan, killed Marie Ramthan, a renowned drug dealer.
