DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) –Jordanian border guards clashed on Monday with armed groups on the border with Syria to prevent the smuggling of drugs and weapons.
The Jordanian Army said that intense clashes took place between the Jordanian border guards and armed smugglers on the northern border of Jordan.
The Jordanian forces thwarted a smuggling attempt and pushed back the armed groups to Syrian territories. The clashes resulted in the injury of a number of soldiers, the Army added.
Recently, there has been an surge in attempts of smuggling narcotics from Syria into Jordan, resulting in the seizure of quantities of narcotics and the killing and injury of Jordanian border guards.
On Dec.12, the Jordanian Army announced that one of its border guards was killed and another was injured in an armed attack by drug traffickers on the Syrian-Jordanian border.
