Government forces siege city in Syria’s Daraa
DARAA, Syria (North Press) – Syrian government forces imposed on Saturday a siege on the city of Jassem in the northern countryside of Daraa, southern Syria, after the arrival of military reinforcements.
An eyewitness told North Press that the government forces tightened the siege through the military checkpoints surrounding the city.
The military checkpoints of the government forces prevented students and employees to exit the city no matter the reason, the eyewitness added.
The government forces claim that militants affiliated with Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS, formerly al-Nusra Front) are present in the city, according to the eyewitness.
They informed a delegation from the people of the city to hand the HTS militants over or otherwise they would raid the city to get them out.
On Friday, the government forces sent significant military reinforcements to support their checkpoints and established new ones on the outskirts of the city.
