AANES changes municipalities structure in new Social Contract
RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – On Tuesday, the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) formulated a new structure for municipalities in all of its areas of control as part of its new Social Contract.
This morning, the AANES General Council held a meeting in the city of Raqqa, northern Syria, to ratify a new Social Contract for North and East Syria Region.
Deputy Co-chair of the General Council, Yasser Suleiman, told North Press that new bodies, councils, and institutions have entered the Social Contract.
Suleiman added that all municipalities operating in AANES-held areas will run under the umbrella of one body called the “Municipalities Union in North and East Syria,” noting that elections for this new body will be held in the coming period.
He said that a “supreme electoral commission” will be formed to oversee all elections that will be held in North and East Syria in the future.
As part of the new Social Contract, he said, the AANES will establish a central monetary and a special court. This court is tasked with protecting the “contract and its democratic vision, and resolving disputes between the AANES councils if they arise.”
