SDF finds mortar launchers used in attack on Global Coalition base
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) located on Tuesday several mortar launchers used in an attack on their joint base with the U.S.-led Global Coalition in the countryside of Hasakah, northeastern Syria.
The SDF’s Media Center said in a statement they conducted an extensive combing operation near the town of Shaddadi in the south of Hasakah.
The operation was carried out “in response to a series of mortar shell attacks targeting one of our joint bases between our forces and our partners in the coalition,” the statement read.
The mortar launchers were found near the village of Adla in the south of Shaddadi.
SDF’s statement pointed out that the mortar shells not only targeted the joint Global Coalition base but also posed threats to civilian lives in neighboring villages.
On Monday, a source from the U.S. base told North Press that five mortar shells hit near Shaddadi in close proximity to a base of the Global Coalition. Three shells fell around civilian homes in the villages of al-Hariri and Tel Hamad, causing material damage.
