AANES attends international meeting on counter-ISIS efforts
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Foreign Relations Department of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) announced on Saturday attending an international meeting in Geneva to discuss efforts to ensure the enduring defeat of the Islamic State (ISIS).
The meeting, which lasted from Nov. 29 to 30, was attended by Badran Chia Kurd, co-chair of the Foreign Relations Department, and representatives of European and Asian countries.
Chia Kurd said in a statement the meeting discussed enhancing counter terrorism efforts, and the political, humanitarian, and legal aspects that benefit this purpose.
He added that the meeting tackled the issue of ISIS militants held in prisons and their families residing in camps in northeast Syria.
Chia Kurd pointed out that the issue of ISIS militants and their families requires international cooperation, the AANES, however, stands alone in facing it. He called on all states to assume their responsibility and show commitment.
Moreover, the attendants discussed the complicated situation of ISIS children and minors who are indoctrinated with an extremist ideology, making them a major international threat, in addition to the establishment of more rehabilitation centers.
