Woman loses fetus after being shot by Turkish border guards in Idlib
IDLIB, Syria (North press) – On Saturday, a Syrian woman suffered a miscarriage as a result of an injury sustained after Turkish border guards opened fire on Syrians trying to cross the Turkish border from western Idlib, northwestern Syria.
A security source told North Press that Turkish border guards targeted 19 Syrians as they tried to cross the border wall near the village of Kherbet al-Joz in the western countryside of Idlib Governorate.
The area has witnessed an increase in checkpoints and patrols by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS, formerly al-Nusra Front) to prevent unauthorized crossings between Syria and Turkey.
A nurse at the Kherbet al-Joz Hospital informed North Press that the emergency room received a pregnant woman in her fourth month.
She added that they received 28-year-old Alia al-Harboush who got two gunshot wounds, one in the shoulder and the other in the abdomen, in addition to 28-year-old Abdur-razaq al-Hajim.
The nurse reported that due to the severity of her injuries, the woman lost her fetus and was subsequently transferred to Idlib University Hospital for proper treatment.
On Friday, two people from Deir ez-Zor Governorate, eastern Syria, lost their lives by Turkish border guards while they were trying to cross the border into Turkish territory from the city of Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain), in northern Hasakah Governorate, northeastern Syria.
