Republican senator says US has to strike in Iran

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – In a presidential debate on NBC on Thursday, Republican Senator Tim Scott called on President Joe Biden to be more aggressive and to strike in Iran to stop its attacks against the US and Coalition forces in the Middle East.

Since the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas conflict on Oct. 7, following a surprise attack by Hamas, Iran – through its militias – has stepped up their attacks against US bases in Syria and Iraq.

Scott said “diplomacy only is a weak strategy” adding that “appeasement leads to war from President Obama to President Biden.” He stressed that the only way to stop Iran’s terrorism through its proxies “is to strike in Iran.”

The senator indicated that the Iranian attacks against US military bases and personnel would not stop unless the US hits Iran itself, not its affiliated militias. He declared, “If you want to make a difference, you cannot just continue to have strikes in Syria on warehouses, you actually have to cut off the head of the snake and the head of the snake is Iran and not simply the proxies.”

He pointed out that the US has to be in a strong position to destroy – not negotiate – “the evil”, in reference to Iran.
