Islamic Resistance in Iraq claims attack on US base in NE Syria

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Islamic Resistance in Iraq, a coalition of Iranian-backed militias in Iraq, claimed responsibility late on Friday for a rocket attack that targeted a base of the US-led Global Coalition in the countryside of Hasakah, northeastern Syria.

Two hours earlier, the Kharab al-Jir base near the oil-rich town of Rmelan, located in the countryside of Qamishli, was struck with four missiles.

The Islamic Resistance in Iraq said in a statement their militants targeted the Kharab al-Jir base of the “US occupation” in northeastern Syria with projectiles.

Lately, US sites and bases in the Middle East, particularly in Syria and Iraq, are being attacked by the so-called Islamic Resistance in Iraq following the start of the Israel-Hamas war since Oct. 7.

In a related context, US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, said the US “has and we will continue to respond to attacks by Iran’s proxies to defend our personnel in the region, personnel who are here in Iraq and in Syria to help prevent the resurgence of ISIS.”
