People mourn SDF commander killed in Turkish drone attack in NE Syria
DERIK, Syria (North Press) – Residents of the city of Derik (al-Malikiyah), far northeast Syria, attended on Sunday the funeral of a senior commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) who was killed in a Turkish drone strike two days ago.
Thousands of residents of Derik and its countryside, military and social figures, and politicians attended Muhammad Shibli funeral in Khabat Derik Martyr shrine, northeast Derik.
On Oct. 27, Shibli, who worked as a coordinator between the SDF and the US-led Global Coalition in the fight against the Islamic State (ISIS), was killed by a Turkish drone strike while he was in his house in Derik.
Shibli took part in several battles against ISIS. In 2014, he was assumed as a coordinator of the operations against ISIS within the joint efforts between the SDF and the Coalition, a source told North Press.
Muhyi al-Din Kherqi, SDF Commander, told North Press that Turkey has previously targeted Shebli, injuring him. However, he returned to service.
The residents called for facing the Turkish plans and attacks against the region.
