US downs two drones before reaching base in southern Syria

RUKBAN, Syria (North Press) – The US forces in the al-Tanf garrison, in southern Syria near the border with Iraq and Jordon, shot down on Monday two drones, believed to have been sent by Iran-backed militias, before reaching the base.

A source from the US personnel at the base told North Press that two unknown drones were shot down coming from Iraqi territory before reaching the base.

Over the past week, the US military bases in Iraq, Syria, and Yemen were targeted by drones and rockets. All of the attacks are believed to have been carried out by Iran-backed militias in the region: the Houthis in Yemen, and the Islamic Resistance in Iraq, which is affiliated with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

The spike in attacks against US forces and personnel coincides with Israel’s escalation in the Gaza Strip, which comes in retaliation to a Hamas attack on Oct. 5 in southern Israel.

No party has claimed responsibility for the al-Tanf attack, and the Coalition has not issued any official comments.
