Turkey transfers 7 detainees from Syria’s Sere Kaniye to Urfa
HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – Turkish authorities, in cooperation with the Turkey-backed Military Police of the Syrian National Army (SNA), transferred seven detainees from the city of Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain), in northern Syria, to a prison in the Turkish province of Urfa.
During September, Turkey transferred, at least twice, Syrian detainees from Sere Kaniye to Turkish territory, in a violation of the Fourth Geneva Convention.
An official within the Military Police told North Press that the detainees were arrested on April during an arrest campaign carried out by both the SNA’s Military Police and Security Service in the city of Sere Kaniye.
He added that among the detainees were four Kurdish people, including two teenage girls. They were subjected to investigation by the Military Police, and a security charge was recorded on the grounds that “they had previously tried to cross into Turkey and seek refuge in a European country.”
The source indicated that the Military Police had transferred the detainees to the counter-terrorism center in city. They were transferred again at dawn by Turkish intelligence through the Ras al-Ain border crossing to a prison in Urfa.
