Turkey targets 172 sites in NE Syria
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Turkish forces have targeted 172 sites in north and northeast Syria since October 5.
Since the early hours of Oct. 5 and until Monday, 172 sites in areas and cities in north and northeast Syria have been stuck by Turkish airstrikes, shells, and drone attacks, targeting residential areas, military posts and infrastructure, including oil fields, gas plants, power stations, and others, according to the Monitoring and Documentation Department of North Press.
The targeted sites were distributed as follows: 26 infrastructure sites, 107 residential areas, 11 centers of the Internal Security Forces (Asayish) and Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), 17 sites of Syrian government forces, six farmlands, three industrial factories, a school, and a hospital, according to the department.
On Sunday night, Turkey launched a series of intense attacks targeting oil fields in the eastern countryside of Qamishli and other areas in the region. One of them was an airstrike that hit an Asayish center in the eastern countryside of the city of Derik, far-northeast Syria. The Asayish announced that they have incurred deaths and injuries in the Turkish airstrike without providing further details.
The attacks since October 5 resulted in 29 casualties, 18 of them were killed, including 11 civilians, and 12 people were injured, including 10 civilians. The exact number of casualties among the ranks of the Asayish members targeted on Sunday night remains unconfirmed but is estimated to be in the dozens.
These 172 sites were targeted with 237 strikes, including 157 artillery and heavy weapons strikes, 24 airstrikes, and 56 drone strikes.
The toll of the attacks was distributed across the following cities and surrounding areas: two sites in Qamishli, 32 in Hasakah, 37 in the northern countryside of Aleppo, 13 in Derik, 31 in Ain Issa, 19 in Kobani, seven in Manbij and four in the northern countryside of Raqqa.
