Landmine explosion kills child in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – On Monday, a child lost his life in a landmine explosion in a small cargo truck in the western countryside of Deir ez-Zor Governorate, eastern Syria.
A local source from the town of al-Qasabi, in the western countryside of Deir ez-Zor, held by Syrian government forces, stated that a landmine exploded in a small cargo truck on the outskirts of al-Qasabi.
The source told North Press that the explosion resulted in the death of a 16-year-old boy named Ahmed al-Abd, who was affected by a shrapnel that penetrated his body.
The source suggested that the landmine might be new because the road is used daily and has not witnessed any previous explosion incidents.
Iranian-backed militias and the government forces control large areas of the Syrian Desert and the countryside of Deir ez-Zor, which constitutes a source of concern, as it is the site of intensive operations by Islamic State (ISIS) sleeper cells.
