Funeral procession of Kurdish-Syrian leader killed in Turkish attack in northern Iraq

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Tens of thousands took part in the funeral procession of a prominent leader of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) in the city of Derik (al-Malikiyah) in the far northeastern Syria.

Farhad Shibli, also known as Farhad Derik, deputy co-chair of the AANES, lost life in Turkish drone attack in the city of Kalar in Sulaymaniyah Governorate in Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI) on June 18.

Shibli, along with three other people were driving to Sulaymaniyah when they were targeted. He was in the KRI to conduct some medical tests.

The AANES issued a statement in which it condemned the attack saying “This act of aggression comes within the context of targeting the AANES and committing systematic extermination against our people.”

The AANES demanded the Iraqi government and the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) take responsibility and show a clear attitude towards the attack.
