Residents in Aleppo protest against Turkish attacks
ALEPPO, Syria (North Press) – Dozens of residents of northern countryside of Aleppo protested on Sunday in front of a Russian base, condemning Turkish airstrikes on Saturday that resulted in deaths and injuries.
on Saturday, three fighters of the People’s Protection Units (YPG) were killed and two others were injured in a Turkish drone strike in northern Aleppo.
Villages and towns in the northern countryside of Aleppo have been repeatedly subjected to Turkish shelling and drone strikes since Turkish forces and their affiliated opposition factions of the Syrian National Army (SNA) occupied the Afrin region in March 2018.
The protesters held signs in front of the Russian base in the village of al-Wahshiyah in the northern countryside of Aleppo, with the words “The Russian guarantor betrays the people of Afrin again, Russia’s silence about our killing is shameful, Turkey kills us and Damascus besieges us, no to Russian-Turkish understandings at the expense of Syrian blood”.
A delegation of residents and representatives of self-administration authorities and Arab tribes entered the Russian base to deliver a protest message.
A local source told North Press that the delegation called on Russian forces to impose a no-fly zone on the area and protect residents from Turkish shelling.
According to a member of the delegation, the Russian forces denied knowledge of the attack and pledged to protect the area.
