Government says civil fights between Damascus and Athens to begin

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian government announced on Tuesday that a European airline has started operating civil flights between Damascus and the Greek capital, Athens.

Bassam Mansour, the Director General of Civil Aviation Authority in Syria, stated that an airline has begun operating its civilian flights between Damascus and  Athens, at a rate of one flight per week.

He added that this route will later be connected to the cities of Dusseldorf in Germany and Stockholm in Sweden.

Mansour said that passengers will be able to continue their journeys from Athens to numerous European destinations, such as London, Milan, Amsterdam, Prague, Berlin, Copenhagen, and others.

Mansour emphasized that the airline will provide direct regular flights between Athens and Damascus, which will help alleviate the travel burden for all residents in Europe.

The Greek airline, Air Mediterranean, started operating direct commercial flights between Syria and Greece on March 9.

The company then stated that it will operate two flights per week, on Thursdays and Mondays, from Athens to Damascus, and on Fridays and Tuesdays from Damascus to Athens.

Air Mediterranean, established in 2017, is one of the smallest European cargo airlines, owning only one Boeing 737 aircraft.
